Surfing can also bring a range of health benefits along with an adventurous experience to cherish. Australia has almost 12,000 beaches and there are more than 300 million beach visitations every year. Surfing has also become an inseparable beach event for many. Things to remember while buying a fin

More than 80 percent of Australians live within the coastal zone, and surfing is a sport to try. When it comes to boards, any surfboard setup will require the addition of fins. One has to always pay keen attention to a fin's features, just like the surfboard. Also, the fins must be compatible with your board. To ease your search journey, here is a list of factors to check out,

    1. Size

The fin size is an unavoidable factor to watch out for when you are making a buy. Be it surfboard or fins, the size to buy will depend upon the user's weight. That is, for instance, if you weigh anywhere less than 100 lbs, you can comfortably pick a surfboard fin that is of the GROM size. However, if you weigh between 100 and 120 lbs, you can pick XS and so on. You might also have to consider the width and dimensions of your surfboard in some cases.

    2. Removable or glassed-in

With fins, you will have two major choices. Firstly, the glassed-in fins are attached to the surfboard. These are sturdy and remain glassed-in onto your board but are not versatile when compared to the other types. Alternatively, you can go with removable fins, which can quickly get attached to your surfboards with the help of some screws, inset and keys. You can also remove these fins from your surfboard and affix them to another one. So, removable fins can serve multiple surfboards that are of similar size. The installation is easy and quick, making removable fins the most preferred choice among surfers who would like to experiment with different surfboards.

    3. Fin numbers

Choosing the appropriate number of fins is also super important when it comes to surfboard fins. As beginners, some might feel the choices are tricky. But primely, you can narrow down the options to single and 2+1 fins. Single fins are one in number and best suit mid-sized surfboards. They are large and remarkably sturdy and work the best when installed at the back of the board. However, if you are a beginner, the 2+1 fin type is the best to buy. These fins consist of a large, single fin and two side bites or additional fins. The 2+1 fins can go in almost all kinds of surfboards. They work impeccably commendable when it comes to maintaining stability. If you are on the experience level of surfing and prefer surfing on large waves, you can have a third option and pick twin fins.

    4. Other details

Lastly, you must ensure to look out for fine details and watch out for mismatched fins. Start by checking the base of the fins. Always go with the ones that have a broader base. Likewise, prefer fins that are deeper so that they can offer extra stability. Fins that are tilted and are flex-shaped can make it easy to turn your boards and surf without much restrains.
