How Do You Know If You Should Repair or Replace Your PC?

Work-from-home is the new way of life. People are now using electronic devices more than ever. With the increase in the use of laptops, PC, etc., everyone will need to repair their gadgets at some point in the near future. The city of Melbourne is facing another lockdown after a small break, and people have started working from home. So, everybody will be looking for a shop offering computer repairs in Melbourne soon.

    Hence comes the questions:

    1. When to repair?

    2. What level of repair is required?

If you want to know the answer, ask these three questions yourself.

    1. Has the warranty expired?

Most brands give 1 to 2 years of warranty. It makes sense to claim for any repair before the warranty ends. For any unknown defects or hardware failures during this warranty period, the repair will be for free. But if the warranty is expired, you will need to pay for the repair or find an alternative.

A suitable device must outlive the warranty, and then you will have the most out of the device. It is also true that older hardware can’t support the new software versions; hence, some hardware parts will be required to change.

    2. Is there a decrease in productivity?

Your computer may be fast, and it will remain in that state for a few more years. But after some more time, your PC will lag behind the new hardware embedded PCs. In such situations, you need to either buy a new PC or change the old hardware parts to keep up with the ever-changing technology.

    3. Are you maintaining security?

It is tempting not to upgrade or spend money on your old PC, but it may put you in a terrible situation. Older PCs without any anti-virus update are more vulnerable to hackers and viruses. Keeping up the anti-virus to the latest version will reduce the risk of hacking and viruses. Still, the old hardware will hinder optimising the computer to a higher level or to the level of the present ones.

So, you should consider the following questions:

    • Should I repair my computer?
    • Should I replace my computer?

Considering your computer is still covered under warranty, you must go for the repair. The warranty will cover the expenses, and you need not worry. Otherwise, if the repair is at an affordable price, it is up to you to choose.

If the warranty is over and if the repair and maintenance cost you more than 25% of your computer’s price, it is better to replace it. There is no point in clinging to the outdated PC anymore.

There is no hard & fast rule when deciding the repair or replacement options. The best way to determine is to diagnose the PC to get to the root cause of any problem. Try Googling for shops offering computer repairs in Melbourne, and you can get the desired results. Only visit the trusted software/hardware providers and who does the job at a reasonable price. Always ask about the parts they are replacing and repairing and whether the new parts are of good quality. Keeping these things in your mind will definitely help you in taking care of the computer.
